Workshop 5: Ecological HousingTuesday, 23 October 2007, 14.00-17.30
Raiffeisen Forum, Friedrich-Wilhelm-Raiffeisen Platz 1, 1020 ViennaThe workshop theme Ecological housing construction is not only a concept for one-family houses in rural areas. An impressive evidence of this fact is provided by the Viennese project "eurogate" that will in a few years represent Europe's biggest housing estate with passive house standard. By means of the housing developer competitions criteria like ecological construction methods and energy efficiency have quickly become well-established standards in Vienna's public housing practice. Consequently, "Ecology" is also one of the current focuses of the Viennese housing research programme. At the workshop "Ecological Housing" recent research findings were presented, covering topics like innovative ecological methods of construction, energy-efficient refurbishment of facades and environmentally-friendly construction site management:
- Timber Construction Project "Mühlweg" - Scientific Monitoring of Planning and Production
- Sustainable thermal refurbishment of facades
- RUMBA Monitoring - Monitoring of the measures for sustainable construction sites
- Student Competition "Prefab Houses: Passive Now!"
Guest lecture "City versus nature - city plus nature - city as nature. The aesthetic transformation of "the urban" in times of climate change" by: Helga Fassbinder, Eindhoven University of Technology/Publisher "BIOTOPE CITY JOURNAL"
Cocktail & Vorarlberger Wood Construction Award 2007 Following the workshop discussion an evening cocktail was served in the recently opened architecure galery OFROOM. There participants had the opportunity to visit the exhibition "Birth of the Cool" - presenting innovative material, products and design in the fields of housing, architecture, and construction.
Furthermore, for the first time the Vorarlberger Wood Construction Award 2007 was presented in Vienna.
