Workshop 4: Living Neighbourhoods
Tuesday, 17 April 2007, 14.00-17.30
Urania, Dachsaal, 1010 Vienna

The workshop theme
Urban living - in particular in social housing communities - combines (by nature) close neighbourhoods and a limited range of public space. Whether living conditions are satisfying thus depends strongly on the "social management": opportunities for active participation, methods of conflict prevention and solution, as well as strategies for integration and networking between the tenants. Housing providers and public authorities are challenged to develop suitable structures and tailor-made services.

Regarding to this main theme the following research projects were presented:

  • Anker 10 - Project for living neighbourhoods in the Viennese housing estate "Ankerbrotgründe"
  • New services for the housing sector
  • Park(t)raum - A model project for intergenerational cooperation in public spaces
  • Parti. in Municipal Housing Estates

A guest lecture will focus on innovate area based (neighbourhood) programs in the housing policy of Italian cities.
